DUMMY PERISCOPES
Japanese Ruse Fails (Rec. 11.23 p.m.) HONOLULU, Feb. 18. Dummy periscopes made of wood, bamboo, glass, tin cans and coral have been found at sea off Pearl Harbour, apparently set adrift by Japanese to lure the Army and Navy’ aerial patrols into wasting bombs. Navy officers here say that the device would not fool a surface observer for very long and could not dupe an aerial observer for two seconds.
