“ALADDIN”
J. C. WILLIAMSON’S PANTOMIME There are 23 magnificent scenes in J. C. Williamson’s pantomime “Aladdin,” which is to be staged at the Theatre Royal on Wednesday and Thursday nights next and on Thursday afternoon. The dramatic interest of “Aladdin” is sustained by the notable performance of the part of Abanazer by the Great Levante, who was successful in this role in the last London production of “Aladdin.” The company is well off for comedians, the principal one being Mr Ed. Edwards, who has his audiences laughing with him and at him the whole time he is on the stage. Miss Doris Whimp is said to be a dashing young actress and Auckland critics described her as the most vivacious “principal boy” enjoyed in pantomime for many years. The dancing by the young Chinese artist, Lawrie Long, everywhere creates a sensation, and the clever features presented by Ronnie Shand, Joe Valli and George Corelli materially assist to make the pantomime a remarkably successful production. The singing and artistry of Esme Levante and Ursula Irving' are greatly appreciated by audiences, and the brilliant toe dancing of Gwen Pike and Glen Baisley revives memories of the Russian ballerinas. Robert Butt, who takes the role of the Emperor, is also responsible for the entire production of “Aladdin.” The box plans will be opened at Begg’s on Monday next at 9 a.m. A queue will be formed from 8 a.m. ...
