INCREASED ENEMY ACTIVITY

Japanese Reinforcements In Philippines

Enemy activity on the Batan Peninsula in the Philippines is again increasing. The Washington communique recording this states: “Heavy artillery fire from the Cavite shore bombarded our harbour fortifications with Increasing intensity during most of the day. The damage to our installations and casualties was not great. “In the Batan area the enemy is i bringing up reinforcements and there is Increased artillery fire all along the front. Enemy air activity is increasing. ' “For several days enemy aeroplanes have been dropping poorly printed leaflets on the refugee camps behind our lines. These pamphlets in English, Spanish and Tagalog, professed great friendship for the Filipinos and exhorted them to co-operate with the invaders and join the great Asia coprosperity sphere. Yesterday bombs were substituted for pamphlets. These fell on a refugee camp at the defenceless village of Caboaben. Eighteen women and five children were killed in this attack and 13 women and nine children were wounded. “There is nothing to report from other areas.”
