CORONER COMMENDS GIRL

Courageous Attempt To Save Life (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 18. The Coroner (Mr J. H. Luxford) commended Miss Jean Fraser, a stenographer in the Public Trust Ofllce, for her courageous attempt to rescue Richard Joel Hopkins, a butcher, aged 21. i 'io was drowned at Muriwai when going to the assistance of two children who were in difficulties while bathing. Hopkins swam out when requested by the mother of the children who were rescued by other swimmers. When Hopkins got into difficulties, Miss Fraser again donned her bathing costume, but when 120 yards from the beach, the line parted. She endeavoured to place it on Hopkins, but was prevented from doing so by large waves.
