STUDENT TEACHERS
A Regulation Relaxed Owing to the very large number of young men in training as teachers who have been called up for military service, the Education Department has decided to relax one of the regulations governing the entry of students to the Training College. Applications for entry are normally made in September and October, and applicants are then required either to have passed the university entrance examination or to possess a higher leaving certificate. In practice this meant that they had held this qualification for a yeear before they entered the Training College. Under the amended regulation prospective teachers may apply now for admission this year, and thus those who passed the qualifying examinations last November or December are enabled to begin their training this year instead of in 1943. The requirement that students must be 17 at the end of this month remains unaltered.
