AMPLE DEPOSITS

BAUXITE IN AUSTRALIA CANBERRA, February 9. The existence of ample workable deposits of bauxite —an ore from which aluminium may be produced—has been confirmed by the Copper and Bauxite Committee of the Department of Supply and Development. The committee has just completed a survey of the bauxite resources of the Commonwealth, which, it is stated, justifies the establishment on a large scale of an aluminium industry in Australia. The Minister for Supply and Development, Mr Beasley, said to-day that supplies of bauxite had been found in all Australian States except two, and as the deposits were similar, any process developed to treat one deposit would probably be useful for all.
