RESERVIST REBUKED
Attitude To Japanese AUCKLAND, Feb. 17. A statement that he would allow his sister to suffer Indignities at the hands of the Japanese was made by John Ronald Hall, clerk, before the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board when appealing for exemption from military service on the grounds of conscientious objection. Disgust with this attitude was expressed by Mr C. R. Orr Walker. S.M., chan-man of the board, who told appellant that he would rather he reiused to answer a question as to what he would do if his sister was threatened by the Japanese. The chairman said he did not know how reservist could face his fellow men. except those who thought the same as he did. However, he did not believe that appellant would allow his sister to be raped by Japanese. When questioned by Mr A. M. Samuel, a member of the board, whether lie belonged to the Christian Pacifist Society, appellant said he did. “Oh, I see; you have all the answers off pat,” remarked Mr Samuel. The appeal was dismissed.
