A call from the Onehunga Presbyterian Church has been accepted by the Rev. A. J. H. Dow, of Gisborne. Advice has been received by Mrs Arthur King, King Street, Timaru. that her son, Pilot Officer Ronald King, is now serving with the R.A.F. in the Middle East. Pilot Officer King has been with the R.N.Z.A.F. in England for several months. A well-known Aucklander, Mr R. S. Milne, has been attached to the staff of the New Zealand Purchasing Commission in Washington. Mr Milne was to have returned in December from a visit to the United States, but was held up in California through the upset of Pacific sailings, owing to Japan’s entry into the war. Congratulations on his election as Member for Temuka were extended to Mr J. Acland, a member of the board, by the chairman, Mr E. Macdonald, at the monthly meeting of the South Canterbury Hospital Board yesterday. Mr Macdonald said that the result of the by-election was most pleasing, and he hoped that Mr Acland would be able to remain a member of the board in spite of his Parliamentary duties. Mr Acland might also be able to assist the board in his Parliamentary capacity. In acknowledging the remarks, Mr Acland said he hoped to be able to continue as a member of the board. He had gained considerable experience at the board’s table, and he hoped to be able to continue to do so. If he were able to assist the board in any way he would be pleased to do so.
