CONVALESCENT HOME
New Zealanders In Britain NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 29 Set amid lovely gardens and lawns, a short distance from London, is Warbrook House, convalescent home for New Zealanders in England. A photograph of the house and its surroundings was recently sent to his parents at Stratford by Sergeant Pilot W G. McCullough, who spent several weeks convalescing there. Commenting on the home Sergeant Pilot McCullough says: “Within easy reach of London, yet right in the country, it is a charming Queen Anne house set in perfect surroundings. The gardens appear quite unplanned, with the result that there is an air of freedom and beauty. Everything indoors is equally well arranged and comfortable. “The men have a delightful cottage for their recreation rooms. One room is a billiard room, in another there are darts, radio, books, etc.; in yet another there is a canteen. Warbrook is run by the Army, with Major Robertson, Wanganui, as 0.C., and Sister M. Palmer, Auckland, as matron, and the 94th Division of the Hampshire Red Cross as the nursing staff. Mrs Humphrey Owen, who is commandant of the division, is the owner of War brook and lives in a comer of the house, and it is to her we should be grateful for being able to have this lovely house as a convalescent home.”
