“NO FREEDOM”
AN EXAMPLE CITED Displaying a South African 10/- note at his meeting at Ealing, Mr J. Acland, National Party candidate for Temuka, emphasised the complete loss of freedom suffered by the people of Hew Zealand in the use they sought to make of their own money. “I knew that my brother, who is fighting in the South African Army in Libya, could do with a bob or two extra to enjoy himself on leave," said Mr Acland, “so I enclosed this note In a letter I wrote to him. Not only are my letters to my brother severely censored, particularly any reference to the Government of to-day, but this note—which does not belong, to this country—was actually extracted from the letter and returned to me by the censor. In other words, I am not permitted to send a South African note back to a country where it Is currency and could be cashed for the benefit of a soldier serving in the army of a sister Dominion.”
