THE VICTORIA CROSS
Award To Sergeant Hulme investiture next week (P.A.) ROTORUA, Jan. 29. One of the few investitures of the Victoria Cross to take place in New Zealand will be held in Nelson next Monday, when Sergeant A. C. Hulme, V.C., will receive the award at the hands of the Governor-General, uir Cyril Newall. This investiture in his home town will coincide with the centennial celebrations of the Nelson Province, and is to take place on the Cathedral steps. Sergeant Hulme was awarded the Victoria Cross in October for conspicuous gallantry in Crete. He is still receiving medical treatment for an injury to a hand received oh active service. He is wearing the distinctive crimson ribbon which signifies the award of the highest order for bravery in the British Empire. It was pinned on him when he visited Auckland shortly after the honour was announced and is the proud possession of another V.C. winner, Mr J. Crichton, of Auckland, who received the award at the hands of King George V. General Sir Claude Auchinleck, Commander-in-Chief of the Middle East Forces, has also forwarded ' a ribbon to Sergeant Hulme who has, in addition, received a letter of congratulation from Major-General Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C.
