PRICES WELL MAINTAINED (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 28 There were large entries in practically all sections at to-day’s Addington market and, generally, prices were well maintained. There was again an exceptionally heavy entry of 11,709 head of store lambs, but the quality was scarcely up to last week’s exceptionally high standard. The market differed very little in values. Top price was 24/9 for sound-mouthed threequarter breds. Good ranged from 17/9 to 21/3, medium to forward rape lambs strong in the wool 16/- to 18/-, and equally good fine wools up to 16/6. Close-woolled were The fat lamb entry was slightly less than last week, comprising about 3200 head. There was a fair showing of quality lambs with a rise of Jd in the schedule for the first grade, but this was not fully reflected in the prices paid. The market was inclined to be firmer and the bulk of the entry went to exporters within the schedule. The fat sheep entry of 4000 head was slightly larger than last week. The market was irregular but on the average little changed from a week ago. Best wethers made 27/6 to 32/6, good 25/- to 27/-, ordinary and light 21/6 to 24/6, best ewes to 22/-, prime medium 15/- to 17/6, ordinary 12/6 to 14/6. export 10/- to 11/6. The fat cattle yarding totalled 589 head but quality was only fair. There was a dearth of heavy -teers and tewer medium weight prime. Best quality steers made £l6/5/- to £lB/12/6, medium to good £l4/5/- to £l6/5/-, ordinary and light £lO/15/- to £l3, best heifers £lO/10/- to £l4/12/6, medium £8 to £9/15/-, light to £7/5/-, best cows £lO to £l2/12/6, medium £6/10/- to £B/10/-, and light to £6. Best beef made 40/to 42/6 per 1001 b and medium to good 36/- to 39/-. The fat pig entry was about the same as last week. Values at the beginning were on a par with the last sale but eased towards the finish by 2/- to 3/a head. Of baconers there was the smallest yarding for some time. The average price for porkers was 61d to 7Jd per lb and for baconers 6d toYld per lb. TEMUKA SALE GOOD ALL ROUND MARKET The sale at Temuka was a large one In all departments and there was a noticeable Improvement in all sections. Fat Cattle. —About 100 head came forward. Included in the entry were some outstandingly prime heifers of light to medium weight. Butcheis were holding short supplies and oid keenly for all lots offered, the market showing an improvement of about £2 a head on the last sale. Best steers made £l4/7/6 to £l5/17/6, medium £l3 to £l3/17/6, light £ll/12/6 to £l2/12/6. Best cows £lO to £ll/2/6, medium £B/17/6 to £9/7/6, light £6 to £7/12/6. Best heifers £lO to £ll/12/6, medium £B/17/6 to £9/17/6, light £6/17/6 to £B/2/6. Store Cattle.—l B-month steers and heifers £3/2/6 to £3/12/6, 2-year heifers £5/12/6 to £5/17/6, empty cows £2 to £4. bulls to 30/-, one springing cow due August £7. Fat Lambs.—About 1200 head of fat lambs were forward. All exporters were operating and the entry sold at full schedule rates. Best made 24/- to 26/1, medium 22/- to 23/4, light 18/to 21/-. Fat Sheep—Two full races of fat sheep were offered and a good clearance was effected at prices satisfactory to vendors. Best wethers made 26/10 to 30/1, medium 23/4 to 25/-, light 21/to 22/10. • Store Sheep.—There was a fair number of store lambs in good condition, and these met with the keenest bidding so far at any sale. Two-tooth wethers were also in demand. Best store lamos made 18/- to 19/8, medium 14/6 to 17/-, 2-tooth wethers 18/- to 19/4, 2 and 3shear ewes 17/3. BURNSIDE SALE BEEF SLIGHTLY DEARER <P.A.) DUNEDIN. Jan. 28. A smaller entry In the beef section resulted in an improved sale at Bumside to-day. The entry totalled 275 head. Steers were 10/- dearer. Prime bullocks made £l5/2/6 to £lB/7/6, medium £ll/12/6 to £l2/17/6, light £B/17/6 to £lO/12/6, prime cows and heifers £6/17/6 to £lO/2/6, medium £5 to £6/2/6 and light from £3/15/-. An overflow yarding of 2750 fat sheep was offered. Competition was poor. Prime ewes were 3/- lower and wethers 2/-. Prime wethers made 24/- to 29/3, medium 22/- to 23/-, prime ewes 11/6 to 15/6, medium 10/- to 11/-. The entry of fat lambs totalled 1200. Prices ranged from 20/6 to 28/3. In the pig pens baconers made £2/17/6 to £4/13/- and porkers £2/7/to £3/5/-.
