SUSPENSION ORDER
Holidays And Overtime ANOMALIES TO BE RATIFIED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. Provision for conferences to be held with a view to rectifying anomalies or injustices arising from the Holiday and Overtime Suspension Order was announced by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb. The Minister, who is visiting Auckland, made this statement after a meeting of the Industrial Emergency Council in Wellington, at which the position of industries covered by the recent Suspension Order was discussed. When the recent order was made it was recognised by the Industrial Emergency Council that there would be anomalies and possibly injustices arising from a blanket order of that kind, Mr Webb said. The Council made £ revision for the exemption of certain idustries from the scope of the order, but realising that in all probability there would be further Industries and occupations that would have a case for exemption, it was further provided that their position would be considered if and when required. “I now wish to state that where there is an anomaly, or where hardship has been inflicted on any workers, representatives of the workers and representatives of their employers will be called together as early as passible to confer in the presence of representatives of the Industrial Emergency Council for the purpose of rectifying any such anomalies or injustices,” Mr Webb added. "In the event of representatives failing to reach an agreement, the council would recommend the Minister to take appropriate action.”
