Mrs Goodwin. Elizabeth Street, will leave to-day to stay with Mrs E. Goodwin, Eversley, Fairiie. Mrs Rex Harper, who has been staying with her mothef, Mrs P. C. Wright, St. Martin's, has returned to Grassy Hills, Kurow. The family of the late William and Sarah Spurdie. who landed in New Pylmouth in 1842, will celebrate the centennial of their arrival on Easter Saturday. This pioneer family is estimated to have 500 descendants in New Zealand. Miss J. I. Martin (Waikato Hospital. Hamilton) has been appointed matron of the Cook Hospital, in succession to Miss G. M. Liepst. Miss Martin served at the Cook Hospital as tutor sister, and from there went to the post of senior tutor sister at the Waikato Hospital. News has been received from England that Bebe de Roland, the 16-year-old New Zealand ballerino, after completing a long and successful tour of the English provinces, is now appearing as prima ballerina of the Kyasht Ballet at the Garrick Theatre, London. At the recent Trinity College examination conducted in Christchurch by Dr Lyon, Jean Margaret Keen, a student of the Greig School of Music, Tlmaru, was successful in passing the practical section of the Teachers’ Associate in Violin. Mrs A. C. Fahey acted as her accompanist. On Saturday afternoon Lady Newall opened a fair in aid of the Victoria League’s war fund, held at the home of Mr and Mrs H. O. Greenwood. Rlccarton. One of the attractions was riding round the lanes of Riccarton in Cobb’s Hokitika-Christchurch stage coach, drawn by four sturdy horses. Amongst the passengers were Lady Newall, her children and the official party. The coach was also used for conveying visitors from the tram stop to the fair.
