WOMEN’S DIVISION
OTAIO BRANCH Mrs H. B. S. Johnstone presided at the December meeting of the Otaio Branch of the W.D.F.U. A letter was read from Mr R. Johnson, thanking members for the parcel he had received. The competitions resulted as follows. Best bloom, Miss Brunton 1, Mrs Dix .. Knitted pullover, Miss Brunton 1. Roses, Mrs Bowie 1. » Members continued with Red Cross work and many articles of sewing and knitting were handed in. The monthly Red Cross Bulletin was read. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Childs and Caln and Miss Fenwick.
PLEASANT POINT BRANCH The November meeting of the. Pleasant Point Branch of the W.D.F.U. was held In the Town Hall, Mrs Jackson presiding. The president read a circular from Mrs Adams, Dominion president, urging members to respond to the appeal f-nm Lord Bledisloe for knitted comforts for the men of the Navy. Necessary wo.l was distributed at the meeting. The soldiers' monthlp parcel Is to be packed and forwarded by Mrs Jackson. An invitation was accepted with thanks from the Women’s Institute to attend a demonstration by Miss Robins on the drying of fruit. Mrs Shaw, of Kerrytown, demonstrated the making of soft toys—a number of which were on display. She was accorded a vote of thanks. Miss Wotton, a visitor from Christchurch, gave a travel talk and was accorded a vote of thanks. Supper was served by Mrs Archer and Mrs Roberts. Competitions judged by Miss Wotton, resulted as follows: Premier bloom, Mrs Cunningham and Stratheona (equal) 1. Mrs Roberts 3, Mrs Lyon 4. Class A, jar of flowers, Mrs Cunningham 1, Mrs Jackson 2. Class B, Mrs Chapman and Mrs Lyon (equal). Cakes, Stratheona 1 and 2, Mrs Bishop
