GONDAR MAY FALL SOON
Last Italian Strongbold Encircled RUGBY, November 18. In Abyssinia, six columns of British and Ethiopian forces are converging from six directions on Gondar, the Italians’ last stronghold. The enemy in Forgora, on Lake Tsana, have : n called on to surrender. R.A.F. and South African machines are attacking targets in the Gondar area daily. An East African war communique states: — “Our column advancing from the Sudan started artillery registration of the enemy positions on the escarpment west of Celga, -vhile ground patrols were active in this sector. “Kament chiefs are daily joining our troops advancing towards Gondar along the Om Ager Road. In other sectors pressure on the enemy positions is being maintained.” A communique issued from British General Headquarters in Cairo stated: “In Libya and at Tobruk ground visibility has been improved, due o heavy rain. During the night of Monday to Tuesday our patrols were ac ive again. In the frontier area our patrols were particularly active, crossing he frontier at a number of points, and penetrating deeply into enemy territory.”
