FRENCH FORCES AT SALONIKA

Hope To Reconquer Syria (Rec. 9.12 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 18. The Cairo correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that 5000 French troops released from prison camps who arrived at Salonika in July to participate in the Syrian campaign were retained after the armistice for garrison duties. The French forces at Salonika are now reported to number 30,000 and are partially mechanised. They are not performing garrison duties but consider themselves the snearhead for the reconquest of Syria. With the slogan: “Syria in two months,” they believe it will be possible to synchronise the conquest with the German advance on Batum.
