BUNDLES OF NOTES
Discovery In House (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Nov. 19. Mr Joseph Partington, proprietor of Auckland’s famous windmill, which was built on an elevated site near the city 97 years ago, was found dead about noon to-day in his residence close to the mill. He was 83 years of' age, unmarried, and for the last three years had lived alone. While a solicitor was searching for a photograph at the request of newspaper representatives he found bundles of bank notes in envelopes, tins, and other receptacles, mostly in the locked bottom drawers of a dressing table in the bedroom. The door was locked. A quantity of silver and copper coins was also found. The money discovered has not yet been counted. In the early days the mill was used for the manufacture of flour, and supplied the Imperial troops during the Maori wars. The mill is still in operation. Mr Partington was the son of the founder. A tradesman found the body slumped back in a chair in the kitchen. There were remnants of a meal on the bare table, and Mr Parttagton’s bed had not been slept ta.
