FOOD PARCELS FOR BRITAIN
Lifting Of Weight Lipit Advocated (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 11. A request that the New Zealand Government should attempt to arrange a modification of the regulations relating to the contents of parcels of foodstufis entering Britain was made by Mr E. P. Meachen (Labour, Marlborough) in notice of a. question to the Postmaster-General (Hon. P. C. Webb) in the House to-day. Parcels, said Mr Meachen, were restricted to 51b weight and must contain more than qne commodity. He added that many people desired to send relatives in Britain a Christmas cake up to the full weight allowed. Mr W. J. Polson (National, Stratford) in notice of a question to the Minister of Defence asked if he could arrange for the stopping of the Limited Express from Wellington at Waiouru on Sunday nights to let down military passengers returning from leave.
“Ther? is no reason to suppose that the pillaging of parcels sent by overseas soldiers to their relatives in New Zealand is taking place in this country,” said the Postmaster-General, answering an urgent question by Mr W. J. Broadfoot (National, Waitomo) who had asked if the Minister would institute inquiries into and endeavour to stop the pillage of parcels sent by overseas soldiers to their relatives in New Zealand. Mr Webb added that the appropriate authorities were being asked to make suitable investigations in the Middle East. Mr j. A- Lee: If the sergeant steals your rum, never mind.
