BOROUGH COUNCIL
GENERAL BUSINESS At a meeting of the Waimate Borough Council on Monday night those present were the Mayor (Mr W. F. Boland) and On. W. G. Paul. S. I. Fitch, H. H. Leathwick, H. J. Bowron, A. G. McHardy, A. Lyall, G. R. Waters and R. H. White. Referring to the annual report of the National Patriotic Fund Board, the town clerk (Mr B. S. Runcima;.* said the report made it clear that money was being use ’ for comforts for members of the Air Force and Navy as well as the Army. The general committee reported that after considering a statement from the town clerk, it was of the opinion that the allocation of heavy traffic fees in the No. 17 district should ’ e reviewed. It had been decided that the Timaru Borough Council as the controlling body should be requested to call a meeting of South Canterbury local bodies to go into the question. It was also recommended that the Council should confer with the County Council on the subject. Mrs A. G. Pitts wrote in connection with, the installation of a library at the public hospital, and requested a donation. She stated that with the chairman of the Hospital Committee (Mr’ A. Grant) she had offered to take charge of the library. It was decided to make a donation of £5. Certain borough library books will also -e made available to the hospital. A notice of motion by Cr. Paul rescinding, water charges was carried, and a new list of charges was adopted. The principle altera’ion is an increase from £3/10/- to £4 for .utside consumers.
Refunds of heavy traffic licence fees were ' granted to Richmond a ’ Hutt, the Waimate Transport Company and G. Sadler.
