WELCOME CLUB
APPEAL FOR FURNITURE Recently an appeal for furniture for the Soldiers’ Welcome Club was issued by the committee and an immediate response was received. Already numerous offers have been made to the .club and some of the larger needs taken care of. An excellent billiarus table, several easy chairs and other useful articles have already been received. Some substantial cash donations towards providing needed furniture and furnishings have also been handed to the committee. It is anticipated that the South Canterbury R.S.A. will provide a piano. While this gratifying result clearly shows the sympathy of many people towards the project, it must be emphasised that further articles are required to complete the furnishing of the rooms. More easy chairs, occasional and card tables, couches, small utility chairs, floor rugs, etc., are among the most pressing needs. A wireless set, too. is necessary. While gifts of actual goods are being welcomed, it has been found that many citizens prefer to give an amount in cash towards the purchases of the club’s needs, and the committee will gratefully receive any such donations. A prompt response to this appeal will enable tae club to begin operating early in October, as planned.
