Mr F. H. Perrin, of Calcutta, manager of the New Zealand Insurance Company, Limited, for India, has arrived in Auckland on furlough. Mr A. S. Hogg, M.Sc., who has been senior science master at the Southland Boys’ High School for the last 15 years, has been appointed senior assistant at the Thames High School. He will leave Invercargill towards the end of the year.

The sixtieth anniversary of his ordination will be celebrated by Canon W. S. Bean this month. Canon Bean, who was ordained deacon by Bishop Harper in St. Michael's Church, on September 25, 1881, and priest in the Cathedral in 1883, was vicar of Addington from 1892 to 1933, a record period of service in the -Christchurch Diocese.
