Women’s Notes

Mr and Mrs E. R. Guinness, who have been spending a week in Tunaru, have returned to Geraldine. Mrs A. J. Parris, Evans Street, who has been on a visit to the North Island, will return to Tlmaru to-day. Mrs L. Almond, who has been the guest of Mrs R. T. Turnbull, Beverley Road, will leave to-day for Christchurch.

Mrs E. Vincent. Klngsdown, who has been on a visit to the North Island, has returned home.

Mrs W. N. Bond, Dunrobin. Southland, who has been staying with Miss M. Cotterill, Christchurch, will return to Tlmaru to-day. Miss E. M. Robb, Hamilton, has retired from the Post and Telegraph Department after 36 years' service. For the last six years Miss Robb has been inspecting supervisor of telephone exchanges throughout New Zealand. At the monthly meeting of the Tlmaru Branch of the League of Mothers, held in the Community Centre on Monday, the speaker was Mr A. W. Anderson, who gave an address on plant life. Flower demonstrations were also given by Mesdames England and Hagh. Mrs Oriole Altchison. formerly Mtss Oriole Faram, of Gisborne, the wellknown pianist, is at present touring Canada, where she Is enjoying great success. Mrs Altchison Is giving all proceeds from her recitals to war funds. A graceful compliment has been paid her by the GovernorGeneral, the Earl of Athlone, and the Countess of Athlone, who have entertained her several times as a guest, and whenever possible attended her recitals. Mrs Altchison will later tour the United States and she hopes to come to New Zealand next year with the object of helping the war effort. When Mrs Altchison played in New York some time ago. critics gave unusu: -y high praise to her work.
