NAZIS WANTED
Final Note To Iran By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Rec. 6.30 pan.) LONDON, Sept. 7. A final British-Russian Note has been presented to Iran demanding the unconditional surrender of all Germans for internment, reports the diplomatic correspondent of the “Sunday Times.” Several hundred Germans have taken refuge in the German Legation compound at Teheran, but many young Germans are wandering freely around the city, boasting that Germany will win the war.
When, over a week ago, the Iranians gave up resistance, the Allies produced the first broad scheme for a settlement, but by a curious lapse no clear provision was made for speedily shutting the German Legation, which is the headquarters of the German fifth column. *
Since then, the Germans, quickly recovering from their initial fright, have settled down to their normal life, driving around in high-powered cars, hanging out swastikas, arid also cutting a figure in business houses In addition to insulting British passers-by and spreading anti-AUied rumours. Indeed, they are behaving exactly as was expected by those in England who protested against the apparent respite afforded the Germans. Presumably, declares “The Times,” the new Note will remedy the situation. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that the Iranian Government is showing some hesitation in meeting the demands in regard to the Germans.
