WRESTLING
EXCITING CONTEST WON BY ATKINS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Sept. 8. Fast, willing and exciting wrestling was witnessed when Fred Atkins, of Australia, and Joe Corbett, of America, met in a return bout. Atkins was again the winner, securing the only fall in the match. This was obtained in the seventh round. Corbett twice sent his opponent sprawling with flying tackles, but at the third attempt he ran into a heavy jolt which sent him to the mat. Atkins quickly grasped the American’s legs and applied a Boston Crab, to which Corbett submitted. MEEHAN DEFEATED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 8. With an Indian deathlock hold in the sixth round Jaget Singh beat Pat Meehan in a particularly clever wrestling bout before a fair attendance at the Town Hall to-night. Meehan, who secured a fall in the fourth round after a succession of flying tackles and drop kicks, was still incapacitated by the effects of the deathlock when the gong for the seventh round sounded.
