Highfield Club Debt Reduced The eleventh annual report of the executive of the Highfield Bowling Club is as follows: Under the presidency of Mr W. Harding, a successful and enjoyable season was experienced. A praiseworthy and successful effort to liquidate the old debt of £ll7/10/-, accrued in the early days of the club, was made during the season. Assisted by a handsome donation of £5O from Mr G. T. Dawson, and supported by liberal donations from the majority of the members of the club, this debt has now been reduced to £l5/10/-. The finances for the current year have proved satisfactory, and the club is to be congratulated in its effort to place the finances on a satisfactory basis. Competitions The club fulfilled its obligations in the Centre competitions and, although not winning many games, the members had many enjoyable matches. The newly constituted junior championship proved a success, and many keen games were played in this contest. All the club competitions were carried out with dispatch and resulted as follows: Senior championship (Simon Cup), Robt. Wilson; handicap singles (Heron Cup), G. Pritchard; handicap pairs (Ladles’ Cup), R. B. Hart and W. Hogg; knock-out handicap, 25 up (Maty Vucetich Cup), R. B. Hart; Keast Bars (rinks), R. Wilson, A. Lindsay, W. Hogg, S. Cunningham; Firkin Miniature (paors), D. Barbour and G. McFarlane; junior championship, E. C. Fairmaid; runner-up, W. Hogg; first year players (Mr J. Drennan’s trophy), J. Toole. In the South Canterbury Champion of Champions competition; the club was represented by the following: Rinks, R. B. Hart, S. Arthur, D. Barhour, G. Pritchard; pairs, M. E. Vucetich arid W. Hogg; singles, Robt. Wilson. Congratulations are due to Robt. Wilson in reaching the semi-final in the singles competition. In the South Canterbury representative fixtures against North Canterbury (Steans Cup), the club was represented by R. Wilson and R. B. Hart, and these players also took part in the match against Ashburton. Messrs Wilson, Hart, Vucetich, Barbour and Fairmaid sported the colours of the club in the Christmas tournament. The Ladies’ Club, under the presidency of Mrs A. H. Moore, had a successful year, and with a prospect of Increased membership is looking forward to the coming season. The thanks of the Men’s Club are due to them for their able assistance during the past year.

The club is indebted to Mr E. Firkin for a gift of miniature shields for evening pairs competition, to Messrs Hogg and Hart for trophies for the junior championship, and to Mr J. Drennan for a trophy for first year players. Thanks are also due to the patrons and members for donations, to the hon. auditor, Mr J. Macaulay and the hon. solicitor, Mr F. J. RollestOn.
