GERALDINE MORE MEMBERS WANTED
Ambulance Brigade Cadet Division May Be Formed
Further recruits are required to build up the strength of the Geraldine St. John Ambulance Brigade. At the annual meeting of the Brigade on Monday the Superintendent (Mr C. C. Knight) emphasised the need for more members and said that a cadet division would be formed in the near future.
In seconding the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Dr. G. W. Curtis congratulated the members on the keenness they had shown and the progress they had made. Officer L. J. Bennington spoke of the work of Suoerintendent Knight who had given 21 hours of his own- time on ambulance transport work. A vote of thanks was carried to Mr Knight by acclamation. “We must not lose sight of the fact that it was partly due to the Geraldine Red Cross that we were formed” said Mr Knight. “We have a wonderful organisation with the Red Cross and St. John working in close co-operation in Geraldine, and the work we are doing must receive the Wholehearted support of the district. The assistance given us by the Red Cross is greatly appreciated.”
END OF TERM SOCIAL
SCHOOL TEACHER HONOURED Opportunity was taken at the end of term social held by secondary pupils of the Geraldine District High School to bid farewell to Mr A. K. Easterbrook, senior secondary assistant, , who has been transferred to Sefton as headmaster. Joan Wills, a senior prefect, presented Mr Easterbrook with a fountain pen and pencil set, and handed Mrs Easterbrook a bouquet and a small gift with the best wishes of the pupils. Mr Easterbrook suitably replied. Music for the dancing was played by L. Fifield, W. Nelson and Merle Ellery and B. Baker acted as master of ceremonies. Novelty dances were won by Noel Titheridge and Ruby Neutze (lucky spot), Margaret Sherratt and Alan Coulter (statue waltz) and L. Baker and partner (Monte Carlo). Miss Joan Wills acted as hostess for the evening.
EMERGENCY PRACTICE HELD
An interesting evening was held recently by the Geraldine Red Cross and the St. John Ambulance Brigade when emergency cases were dealt with. Tagged casualties were transported in the ambulance to an advanced dressing station where members of the V.A. detachment were in charge. Questions were asked on the casualties and were answered by Dr. G. W. Curtis. At the conclusion of the evening which was a preliminary tryout to a larger scale one for E.P.S. work, Mrs J. M. H. Tripp thanked the members of the St. John Brigade for co-operating with the Red Cross.
