WAR SUPPLIES
What The Dominion Is Furnishing (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 14. Outlining the part New Zealand was playing in the work of the Delhi Supply Council by supplying large quantities of equipment and foodstuffs, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan said in the House tonight that actually the productive industry of New Zealand was going all out in supplying the requirements of India and other parts of the Commonthwealth. He had before him two lists showing that tens of thousands of tons of canned meat were concerned in orders from the East and consignments for dispatch to the East. In addition there were vast quantities of dairy products, biscuits, chocolate, oatmeal, etc. Furthermore, negotiations were almost complete for the supply of millions of tins of meat and vegetables outside of food items
The Dominion was also supplying thousands of pairs of blankets, jerseys, pullovers, cardigans, battledress, greatcoats, shirts, boots, etc., and there were also nine or ten items under the heading of munitions, including fuses, hand, grenades, machine-gun carriers,’ mortars and mortar bombs. It was surprising what the Dominion had been able to do. New Zealand was playing a most creditable part in supplying foodstuffs and army stores, and apart from equipping her own soldiers she was helping to equip the soldiers of the rest of the Empire.
