BOXING

PROFESSIONAL CONTESTS (P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 31. Wellington began the 1941 boxing season before a large house in the Town Hall to-night with two 10-round professional bouts. In the principal contest Jackie Davis (Hastings) beat Mayne Morton (Wellington) by a technical knockout ta the tenth round. Though Morton had a big advantage in height and reach Davis was too clever and bored in to score with heavy rights to the head. When Davis dropped Morton with a right to the solar plexus early ta the last round the referee stopped the bout.

In the other professional bout BiUy Brown (Wellington) 8.12, outpointed Tot Hoggarth (Greymouth) 8.5. It was a clever display with little between the pair.
