t DEAREST LITTLE PEOPLE, I 4> Now that holiday time is drawing near, we are going to J X have another Red Cross competition —this time quite an easy one, X X but one in which I hope you will all join. We are going to make X •X our own Red Cross Bed-spread. Don’t you think that will be a X X splendid idea! X * It is to be made of squares of white washing material (not X ♦ silk) nine inches in size. Each circlian is asked to send in a square T X with her name, and also the town in which she lives, worked in red; X X e.g., Mary White, Temuka, or John Brown, Timaru—for, of course, X 4* boys may enter too. . X X The centre piece, which will be a square of 18 inches, will X X have worked on it a big red cross, and the words, “From Peter X X Pan’s Circlians.” The squares will all be joined together, and * X thus make our own Red Cross bed-spread! X X Don’t you think this is a very good idea! Can’t you picture X f* some 1 sick or wounded soldier, lying in bed, and finding your name X on the quilt! Perhaps it will be some one from your district; X perhaps it will be a friend, or even a relation! X X It is going to take lots of .squares to make this bed-spread, X ❖ Little People—76 in all! That’s a great number I know; but * X surely with our very large family (over 1400) we should manage X ❖ ,7 4> ♦ ; * X Another badge will be given for the neatest square—the j work to be judged on both right and wrong sides. Remember X X that the bed-spread is to be all in red and white; that the squares X X are to be nine inches in size; and that both the material and the X * thread in which the name is worked, must be washable. X X So many of you sent in such splendid entries for our last X * Red Cross competition, that I feel this one will be a success too. X X 76 squares by the end of the holidays! It is a lot to ask, but I X ❖ feel sure we can manage it—for, of course, the bed-spread will X X not be large enough unless we get the whole 76 squares. X X How I shall look forward to receiving these squares, and X X how I shall count them as the number grows. X X Lots of love to everyone, X | FROM | X YOUR OWN (TLUA. |
