Drugs (2) 78/6. EXPORT LEVY ON HIDES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 28. The Hides Committee advise the following alterations to the export levy on hides—Ox hides and cow hides reduced to 3d per lb. bull hides reduced to Id per lb. Yearlings remain unchanged at Sd, and calfskins (other than freezers) at 3d per lb. These rates are to operate in regard to all hides purchased in accordance with the Hides Emergency Regulations, 1940 (No. 2) and which become free for export on and after July 30, 1941. TEMUKA SALE LITTLE CHANGE IN VALUES About the usual number of fat cattle were penned at the Temuka Sale. The quality of the bulk of the yarding was fair to good. Values at the outset were inclinded to ease on previous auctions, but as the sale progressed, hardened to being the equal of recent auctions. A medium yarding of fat sheep realised values on a par with recent sales, with the exception of wethers which receded in value to the extent of 1/- per head. Store cattle of quality sold exceptionally well, the same applying to a medium penning of pigs. Values were:— Fat Cattle—Prime steers, £l3/2/6 to £l6/7/6; good £ll/2./6 to £l2/17/6. Prime heifers £l4/2/6 to £l6/2/6; good £9/7/6 to £l2/17/6; light £6/17/6 to £7/17/6. Prime cows, £l2/7/6 to £l3/12/6; good £9/2/6 to £ll/7/6; medium, £6/7/6 to’ £B/17/6; Prime runners £B/2/6 to £lO/12/6; medium £5/2/6 to £7/2/6. Store Cattle—2J year steers £B/0/0 to £9/11/0: 18 month steers £5/12/6 to £7/5/0; yearling heifers to £4/5/0.
