FREE TRAVEL FOR SOLDIERS
Waimate Borough Council Support* Move
Strong support for a motion to the effect that free railway passes should be given to members of the armed forces wee forthcoming at a meeting of the Wfeimate Borough Council on Monday night, when a letter on the matter was received from the Takapuna Borough Council which had adopted the motion. The letter said that it was understood that members of the armed forces received a 33 1-3 per cent, reduction on ordinary fares, out it was only When they Were cm extended leave that free passes Were received to visit next at kin, tn view of the eaarinc* the soldiers were making it was only right that they should be granted free travelling. The letter added that If the Issue Was put to the people, it would be carried by an overwhelming majority. Cr. W. G. Paul: I agree with that, The Mayor (Mr W. P. Boland): 1 think it is ridiculous to charge soldiers train fares.
