LIBEL ACTION
Supplementary Information (PA.) WELLINGTON, June 19. The Belgian Consul-General in Wellington has received from the Belgian Foreign Minister in London, M. Spaak, the following supplementary information in connection with the libel action brought by Sir Roger Keyes against the Daily Mirror Newspapers Ltd. The "Daily Mirror’ on May 30, 1940, published an attack against King Leopold and Sir Roger Keyes who, during the Belgian campaign, was special liaison officer with tne Belgian sovereign. Apart from expessing regret to Sir Roger Keyes, counsel for the “Daily Mirror” declared (1) That it is now clear that the attitude of Sir Roger Keyes in defending King Leopold had been fully justified. (2) That it also was plain that a grave injustice had been committed against King Leopold. (3) That they (Daily Mirror Newspapers, Ltd.) therefore wished to tender to King Leopold their most sincere and respectful apologies. In his summing up, Mr Justice Tucker declared that, contrary to custom, this legal action against a newspaper had fulfilled a useful purpose in evoking truly satisfactory statements.
