The Americas are growing apace, and have now a population of 275 million people, about half as many as the population of Europe. The estimate is made by the organ of the Carnegie Peace Endowment. Nature gave plentiful coal to the United States, and that fact accounts for her great preponderance of population, amounting to nearly a half of the entire lopulation of the continent. Canada is still largely empty country. South and Central America together have 7i million square miles of area against the 8 million square miles of North America. :.nd yet have an aggregate Deputation of only 113 million people against North America’s 162 millions. South America stUl has vast uncropped areas, mainly in Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.
