Private N. J. Laws, of Timaru, who was recently reported wounded, is now out of hospital. Mr Frank Milner, of Oamaru, has received word that his son, Second-Lieutenant John Milner, of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, has been missing from Crete since June 1. Captain E. D. T. Lewis, R.A.M.C., son of Mr and Mrs T. W. Lewis, Park Terrace, Christchurch, who was previously reported missing, is now reported a prisoner of war. Mr E. Macdonald, chairman of the South Canterbury Hospital Board, was reappointed to represent the Board on the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee at a meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday. Mr William Turner, joint general manager of Reuters, Limited, London, is in Auckland. He is making a brief business trip and intends to leave by the Mariposa for the United States next week. Mr Turner was in New Zealand in 1925 as a member of the British delegation to the Empire Press Conference in Melbourne. Mr Douglas Shears, who left Timaru on Saturday to join the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Levin, was, before leaving, presented with a cigarette case by Mr R. S. Gillies, secretary of the Man-Power Committee, on behalf of the staff of the National Service Department, Timaru. Mr Gillies wished Mr Shears the best of luck in his new sphere. Mr Shears suitably replied. On the occasion of the departure of Mr George Shears for service in the Air Force, the manager of Begg and Co., Ltd. and members of the staff, gathered to extend good wishes. Presentations from both the staff and the firm were handed to Mr Shears, and reference was made to his loyal service to the flrm and his popularity with the outside public. Mr Shears suitably replied.
