MARRIED 70 YEARS

MR AND MRS R. COLEMAN The wedding took place 70 years ago last Thursday at West End Baptist Church, Westbury, Wilts, England, of Mr and Mrs Robert Coleman, now of Gill Street, New Plymouth. Mr Coleman was the eldest son of Thomas and Rebecca Coleman of Chippenham and Mrs Coleman was formerly Miss Mary Ann Knott, youngest daughter of John and Sarah Knott, of Westbury, Wiltshire. Mr Coleman is S 3 and Mrs Coleman will be 91 next month. Mr Coleman was a builder by trade until his retirement la years ago. He learned the trade in Chippenham and London, going to Queensland, Australia, about 1885 and about 18 months later going to Melboure where they stayed for several years. Mr and Mrs Coleman came to New Plymouth about It’ 3 and have lived here in the same house ever since. Mr Coleman worked in his workshop until he reached the age of 80 when he retired, and his son, Mr F. Coleman, took over the business. Mr and Mrs Coleman are both wonderfully active and apart from failing sight and hearing are in excel-, lent health. Mr Coleman has a brother and a sister still living in England. Mr and Mrs Coleman have four eons and one daughter living. Messrs Arthur Coleman (Auckland), Fred Coleman (New Plymouth), Will Coleman (Palmerston North), Charles Coleman (New Plymouth) and Mrs McKee (New Plymouth). There are 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grand-children, and one great-great-grand-child. At least two of the grandchildren are servin' ir. the overseas forces.
