U.S. And Martinique
(Rec. 9.0). WASHINGTON, May 22. Mr Cordell Hull (Secretary of State) described as pro-German inspired reports from France that Martinique officials hid received orders to prepare for an American attack. He asserted that there had been no recent developments In Martinique and no immediate concern was felt there. The United States had observers on the island who kept the Government Informed closely regarding conditions there. The Associated Press of America reports that the Administration appears to be waiting for formal word from Vichy about the extent of its collaboration with Germany before taking a definite steo regarding French possessions in the western hemisphere.
