RETURNED SOLDIER’S FUNERAL

Sir, —In reply to A. Macdonald I would advise him to obtain facts regarding Borough Council employees not being granted time off to pay their last respects to a fellow worker. Speaking on behalf of the Borough Engineer’s department I can say that I nave been employed in his department for a number of years, and in every case where one of our workmates have passed on the foreman has made a visit to every employee and where possible permission to attend the funeral has been granted. Regarding our attendance in our working clothes, I would say that we have more practical ways of paying our respects to our late comrade than by dressing up in our Sunday clothes.—l am. etc.. COUNCIL WORKER. Timaru, May 23.
