Mr J. G. Duncan was elected president at the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Returned Soldiers’ Association on Wednesday night.
Mr T. M. Hinkley, manager of the United Press Association of New Zealand, who has been visiting Timaru, will leave for the north to-day.
Lieutenant-Colonel S. G. Scoular, New Zealand Artillery, relinquishes command of the Third Field Regiment and Is transferred to the Reserve of Officers according to a Gazette notice published last night.
The Rev. A. H. Finlay, of Palmerston North, has accepted a call to the Mosgiel Baptist Church, where he will succeed the Rev. E. P. Y. Simpson, who will leave Mosgiel in July to go to Wellington Captain A. A. E. Pennefather has been appointed by the Home Guard Committee its recruiting officer for the Timaru District. Captain Pennefather was complimented on the success of his recruiting efforts up to the present.
Major L. Spring, C.F., Sergeant J. Townsend, Corporal A. Iles, Lance-Corporal D. W. Rutherford, Drivers I. W. Halliday, R. D. Munro, I. Gillon and Private A. A. Keene, all of Timaru, have advised their relatives of their safe return from Greece. Mr John Wood, formerly Chief Public Works Engineer, relinquishes his honorary commission of Group Captain, R.N.Z.A.F., on his retirement from the appointment of Director-General of Works and Buildings in the R.N.Z.A.F., according to a Gazette notice, and Mr W. L. Newnham is appointed Director of Works and Buildings in his stead. Mr Newnham will also hold the honorary rank of Group Captain
