GETTING TOGETHER

TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATIONS • (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 14. The executives of the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Association and the Technical Teachers’ Association were the guests of the executive of the New Zealand Educational Institute at a social gathering this afternoon. In welcoming the guests, the President of the N.Z.E.1., Mr D. Forsyth (Dunedin) said the idea of the gathering was to bring the school teachers of the Dominion closer together. An effort had been made in the past to form a federation of school teachers in New Zealand but it had resulted in failure. School teachers should get closer together. The N.Z.E.1., after years of fighting, had got rid of the bonds of external examinations and they would be only too pleased to help the secondary schools to break these irksome bonds. The president of the New Zealand Technical School Teachers’ Association, Mr B. M. Davis, of Auckland, said the executive of his association appreciated the idea behind the gathering. He assured Mr Forsyth of the co-oper-ation of technical school teachers. The president of the New Zealand Schools Association, Mr N. Hogben, of Dannevirke, said the idea of bringing representatives of the various teachers’ associations periodically for an exchange of views was wise and had the approval of secondary school teachers.
