Temuka Spring Surprise Star Join Leaders The second successive defeat of Tlmaru and a win for Star place these teams level in the South Canterbury Cricket Association’s senior championship. Tlmaru went down to Temuka on Saturday, while Star secured a comfortable win over Old Boys B. Old Boys A and Fairview also registered wins. The positions of the teams now are: Tlmaru 22, Star 22, Old Boys A 16, West End 16, Old Boys B 15, Temuka 14, Fairview 12, High School 8. FAIRVIEW BEAT SCHOOL Playing at the Rectory, Fairview secured a win on the first innings over High School. Fairview batted first and compiled 159. The School attack was steady but not dangerous. McNamara batted solidly for 44, and Rogers compiled 40 by forceful tactics. School gave a disappointing display In their first effort, the side being out for 55. McLeod (19) was the only batsman who looked like making runs. Rogers caused most trouble, taking five wickets for 12 runs. School improved in their second innings, having 70 on the board for the loss of three wickets when time was called. WIN FOR OLD BOYS A A first innings win was secured by Old Boys A over West End in a game in which more than 300 runs were scored in the afternoon. Old Boys had first strike, but lost King and Davies for 19 runs. M. Morrison and Earwaker made a stand, and the third wicket fell at 65. The next pair added 23 and the fifth wicket 16. Then B. Morrison and Hind became associated, and put on 64 for the sixth wicket before Hind was dismissed for 36. Morrison’s useful Innings closed for 45 when he was bowled by Averts. The remaining batsmen carried the score to 200, which set West End a very difficult task. They made a bold showing, and compiled 131. C. Fitzgerald was responsible for 41, including two sixes, while G. Fitzgerald made 30, his total also including two sixes. Kane and Earwaker shared eight wickets, Mclnnes taking the remainder.
