BOARD OF MANAGEMENT At the monthly meeting of the Board of Management of Stratheona Hostel, Mrs H. B. S. Johnson presided. Other members present were Mesdames Andrews, B. E. Evans and Mrs J. A. McLeod (secretary). The matron reported that everything at the hostel was progressing satisfactorily, jams and preserves had been made, several of the trainees had been out for their practical work, and in every case the girls had acquitted themselves well. Letters had been received from trainees now in positions, and it w. s gratifying to know that both mistresses and girls were satisfied and happy. The applications of three prospective trainees were considered and accepted. Mrs McLeod reported that applications were constantly being received for help, in all cases mothers with young children were the first consideration. A party of 25 members of the Mayfield W.D.F.U. had spent a day at the hostel Instead of holding a picnic. On that day luncheon had been served for 40 persons, as well as afternoon tea. The party made a thorough Inspection of the school and grounds. Visits of this kind were commendable, as Lt gave visitors first hand knowledge of “Stratheona" training. Lectures had been given by the Plunket Nurse and the necessary examinations held. Fruit given by Mr Burnett was much appreciated. In order to help the linen supply each Board member had given a pair of towels «s a Christmas gift. Kitchen towels and pillow cases were presented by Mrs Douglas. It was decided to hold the annual garden party on the last Saturday In March, and the February meeting at “Stratheona.” Mrs E. Andrews was appointed visitor for the month.
