Additional capital being required to assist in meeting the expenditure involved in the establishment of shipbuilding, the manufacture of magnesium, the manufacture of lerro alloys and the completion of a blast furnace at Whyalla and other projects in an extensive programme of development upon which the company is now engaged, the directors of the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, Ltd., have decided to make an issue to shareholders at par of two and a half million (as nearly as may be) shares of £1 each. The new shares in the company are being offered to shareholders in the proportion of ti enty-two to every hundred shares of their holding as on February 14 next, with the proviso that fractional parts of less than one half share will be disregarded and fractional parts of one half share or more will be regarded as one share. Rights to the B.H.P. shares will be quoted on the Australian Stock Exchange on February 15. Applications will not close till March 31, and the rights will be available for a period of six weeks. Payment will be spread over twelve months In four Instalments, each of SZ-. First applications close on March 31, and instalments are due on July 31, November 29, 1941, and the final one on March 31, 1942. The new snares will not participate In the dividend payments next May, but, provided the instalments are paid on due date, they will receive one-naif the dividend on the paid shares of 1941. They will participate fully in the dividend payable in May next year. The result will be a difference of 1/1J in the dividend in the new and old shares, provided the rate is maintained. The Stock Exchange Association of New Zealand advises > -t on the announcement at the beginning of the year of the possible new issue of shares by the Broken Hill Proprietary Company, it approached the Reserve Bank with a request that extended facilities be granted for shareholders to take up their quota. From inquiries made again to-day at the Reserve Bank it is understood that consideration is being given to the question of providing facilities, on a favourable basis, to enable existing holders to take up the amount of the new issue to which they will be entitled. Particulars are expected to be available in about a week.

PLEASANT POINT SALE

About 80 head of fat cattle were yarded at Pleasant Point yesterday. Values were firm to i:/- a head better on recent sales, for good cattle. A medium yarding of fat sheep sold at recent values. Prices were as follows:
