SCHOOL CONCERT The Fairview Hall was filled to capacity for the school concert which was thoroughly enjoyed. The outstanding event was an "Empire Pageant,” the original arrangement of which was most spectacular and inspiring. With Noeline Gray as Mother Britain, surrounded by groups of children in national costume representing all the countries of the British Commonwealth of Nations, the children sang songs and recited poems typical of each country The play "Hiawatha,” by the juniors, was also well done and showed an appreciation of good literature. At the conclusion of the programme the chairman, Mr F. Shewan, congratulated the teachers (Miss Tizard and Mrs Roberts) and the children on the excellent concert. The following was the programme:— Songs, School; pianoforte solo, “The Angelus,” Agnes Thomson; recitation "The Dreamseller,” Marjory Griebel; dance, "Dutch,” Dawn Shewan; playette, “A Christmas Party,” juniors; violin solo, “Love’s Old Sweet Song,” Graham Hewitt; play, "The Lost Key,” seniors; verse speaking, "Child or Cow,” infants; songs, School; dialogue. "Peach Pies,” Beverley Hewitt and Eleanor Campbell; dance, Derry and Pauline Shewan; song sketch, "Ten Green Bottles,” senior boys; banjo solo, "When I Grow Too Old To Dream,” Roger Shewan; songs, School; recitation, "Singing,” Doris Butler; play, "The Fourth Form,” seniors; vocal solo, “Drink To Me Only,” Stanley Jackson; play, “Hiawatha,” juniors; verse speaking and songs, seniors; tap dance, Derry Shewan; mouth organ solo.
