FINE (Special to "The Timaru Herald.”) WELLINGTON, December 19. Winds —Freshening north-east to north winds. Weather—Fine, apart from morning low cloud; temperatures rising. Seas —Slight. DOMINION FORECAST General Situation A depression is located south of Tasmania but an anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Forecast Winds —Light to moderate and variable at first, northerlies to westerlies gradually prevailing and later becoming strong in Cook and Foveaux Straits. Seas —Slight to moderate, but later rising in Cook and Foveaux Straits. Eastern Tasman Sea—Light to moderate westerly winds in the northern portion with moderate seas; moderate to strong north-westerlies in the central and southern portions with rather rough seas. Weather—Fair to fine with rising temperatures; cloud Increasing in western districts, and unsettled conditions later developing in South Westland. TIMARU RECORDS Sun rose at Timaru to-day 5.13 a.m. sets 7.56 p.m. High water at Timaru to-day 7.22 a.m. and 7.50 p.m. PHASES OF THE MOON

CHANGEABLE After rain yesterday morning the sky cleared towards mid-day and a fresh north-easterly wind prevailed. Conditions changed late in the afternoon when the sky clouded and the wind dropped. Waimate (for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. yesterday): Barometer—29.4; thermometer, maximum—s 9; minimum —56; rain—s points; bright sunshine—nil; wind gauge, miles run in last 24 hours—62. Yesterday was mainly overcast and cool. Dunedin: Yesterday was dull, overcast, calm and mild. The maximum temperature was 65 degrees. The barometer fell steadily to 30 inches (1016 millibars).
