TWO SHOPS GUTTED

Contents A Total Loss By Telegraph—Press Association NEW PLYMOUTH, December 19. A spectacular fire that resulted in the complete gutting of two buildings in the main street of Opunake occurred early this morning. The outbreak was discovered in the garage premises occupied by Parkes and Griffiths, where it appeared to have started near the office, and in the absence of a water supply it quickly spread to the adjoining grocer’s shop occupied by H. C. Mann. Concrete walls on either side of these two premises helped to prevent the further spread of the flames, which were visible for several miles until the fire burned itself out
