TERRITORIAL SERVICE

COMMITTEE HEARS APPEALS The South Canterbury Man-Power Committee comprising Messrs C. J. Talbot (chairman), A. J. Davey, and H. Badham sat in Timaru yesterday afternoon to hear further appeals for postponement of territorial service. Appeals made by and on behalf of the following were dismissed conditionally on no calling up before April 1: Cecil Lawrence Thomas, Francis David Collett, Morris Tavener, Paul Matthew Daly, Harold Austin Morton, William Shears, Ernest Mackenzie, Gordon S. Thin, Alan Russell Weir, James Richard John Triman. Postponements of service were made in other appeals as follow:—John Clifford Horgan, to May 31; lari William Cameron to May 1; Bert Victor Andreassend, to February 1; Percy Albert Bray to May 31; George Frame, to March 1; Vincent McCann, to February 15. The appeal of Hllman Ernest Hornbrook was dismissed. Appeals adjourned sine die concerned Richard Hayes and Leo Raymond McKenna. The following appeals by the Director of National Service were adjourned sine tile:—Robert Norman Campbell, Alfred Edward Pontifex, Henry John Campbell, Arthur Berry Adkins, William Allen Coulter, Richard Janies Coxon, Ernest Maurice Dash. Noel John James, Hedley Beaumont Newell, Lawrence Ronald Luxton, Michael Augustine O’Connell. Police Department—Thomas Toyne Harris and George Allison Melrose. Department of Agriculture—George Deacon, not to be called up before June 30, 1940.
