DEFECTS DISGUISED Fashion has never been kinder to women than at present, according to a Hollywood expert when discussing the wide variety of styles popularised by the various “period” films which have necessarily introduced period gowns. Thus there are slim gowns and highcrowned hats for slight girls who yearn to appear taller. Full skirts and bustles disguise large hips and accent slim waistlines. Matching cummerbund and turbans which contrast with the rest of an ensemble are a modish combination, and will cut any girl’s height down by inches. The bloused bodice and lumberjacket styles from the early days of this century disguise a large bust. Skirts vary in length so many inches that a girl can choose the length most attractive with her type of legs. Evening gowns can be made with sleeves or without, with high neckline or slashed-away decolletage, so that a woman can pass judgment on her arms and shoulders and If they are not her best features she can cover them up. Snoods from the Civil War period hold unruly hair in place. Wimples cover unattractive ears and frame beutiful facial contours.
