CRICKLEWOOD

CONCERT AND DANCE The annual concert and presentation of prizes was held in the school on Tuesday night before a large attendance. The children, assisted by adult performers, gave an entertaining and varied programme. The chairman congratulated the children on their efforts, and made reference to the favourable comment passed by visitors about the school gardens. He expressed the thanks of the committee to all who had helped in the concert and made special mention of Mr J. Campbell (Timaru) who led the community sing. Mr W. Welsh (secretary) congratulated the teacher and pupils on the fine standard of work achieved during the year. Mr R. J. Wishart (teacher) replied briefly and urged closer co-operation between the parents and school. Mrs Tubb presented the prizes. Music for the dance was supplied by Mrs Tinkler and Mr A. Elliott was M.C. The following was the programme:— Community sing; recitations, primers; play, “The Wizard”; mouth-organ solo, Ambrose Walsh; duet, “South of the Border,” Mary Tubb and Naida Waddell; violin solo, Jack Walsh; play, “The Pied Piper”; steel guitar solo, Mrs Pooke (Timaru); recitation. Les Welsh; tableaux, Tubb family; songs, Winnie Argus; play, "The Burglar”; piano solo, Mrs Gordon; songs, “The Army, the Navy and the Air Force”. “Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major”; play reading, “Joan Gains Permission”; tap dance, Naida Waddell; community sing. The prize list was as follows: Form ll.—Naida Waddell (gardening and art work), Tom Tubb (gardening and arithmetic). Form I.—Milson Welsh (morning talks). Std. IV. —Mary Tubb (English), Donald Smith (progress). Std. lll.—Les Welsh (dramatic work), Fred Tubb (progress). Std. I.—Marilyn Davie, Michael Corbett, Lawrence Smith, Mervyn Voight (general progress). P.—Barbara Anderson, Helen Robinson, Myrtle Smithy
