TEACHER HONOURED
MISS F. M. ALLAN RETIRES Miss F. M. Allan, who has been infant mistress at Waimataitai School for the last 12 years, has retired, and at the school break-up yesterday opportunity was taken to make a presentation to her. The headmaster, Mr S. H. Sullivan, eulogised Miss Allan’s valued services, stating that he had been happy to have had a teacher of her calibre in charge of the Infant Department. Throughout her career she had done excellent work, having laid a foundation upon which the children had been able to build in later classes. One of the features of her work had been that she had always selected a general thought for each week, and her work had been built up on that thought. Right up to the last she had been a hard worker, and the children might well make use of the example she had set. On behalf cf those who were growing up, or who had grown up, Mr Sullivan expressed sincere thanks to Miss Allan for all she had done for them. The presentation of a camphor-wood box was made to Miss Allan by Ruth Williams, who exprescsed appreciation on behalf of the children for her painstaking work in their interest. Miss Allan expressed thanks for the remarks which had been made and for the splendid gift. She had been very happy while at the School, and desired to thank parents for their help and cooperation, without which the School could not have reached the standard it had. She asked the children to work hard and said that she would always take an interest in the activities of the School. Miss Allan was presented with a bouquet by Jocelyn Healey.
